Different Card drivers? Read on…

There are various types of card drivers. Card drivers are small programs that perform the task of connecting the device to the operating system. Since there are numerous operating systems that are available, there are various card drivers available for each device. These are then paired for different operating systems.

The drivers are updated on a regular basis on the websites of most manufacturers. Microsoft also updates the card drivers for its Windows XP and Windows Vista operating system on a weekly basis.

Audio card drivers

They are also known as sound card drivers. One of the best names in the industry is Realtek. The Realtek audio card drivers that are available for download from the website are general drivers for their audio ICs. For customization features, users should contact the user manuals of the system or their motherboard manufacturer. It’s important that users also download the audio card drivers for the motherboard from the website of the manufacturer. These are applicable for the High Definition Audio Codecs Realtek audio card drivers.

Updates are available from manufacturers and third party websites. The best known companies for audio card drivers are PCI, Creative, Soundmax, Yamaha, sound blaster and Realtek.

Graphics card drivers

Video card drivers

It’s also WHQL certified for Windows XP. It also has compatibility fixes for many games and other applications. It supports the Blu-Ray technology (however users need the software of Blu-Ray in order to view this technology from a third party vendor)

Network card drivers

Network card drivers are available for download from various manufacturers of wireless and broadband devices. Wireless network USB card drivers and Ethernet adapter drivers are available for download. Choose from the drivers available for various operating system platforms. Ethernet card drivers need to be installed for linking to LANs. Ethernet card drivers are provided by leasers such as Linksys, ATI, 3Com, PCI and many others.

They are available for the DSL routers and for server applications. There are a number of such Ethernet card drivers.

With the latest plug and play technology, card drivers are being used less. However where there are no such drivers available, divers need to be installed before the devices can work.

Camera drivers

Specific camera drivers are required for those cameras that aren’t plug_and_play. Camera drivers are also required for those that don’t yet have drivers updated in the operating systems such as Microsoft Windows XP or Vista. With the technology of USB Video Class standard most of the new cameras are compatible with any system. Many of the cameras are even compatible with the LINUX and the UNIX operating systems.

All webcams are different and require specific drivers. Manufacturers tend to bundle the drivers of the similar webcams as one when they sell the devices. Many a times the user can use an alternative camera driver for the webcam device that they are using. Windows in most cases has built in drivers for both webcams and the digital drivers. Even if you don’t find the camera driver for the specific digital camera for downloading the pictures, you can certainly use the camera wizard to install the device on your system.

Alternatively many of the CDs that carry the camera driver also come loaded with other software where you can edit the pictures and free software such as DirectX and Photoshop. You may be able to use many of the webcams with generic camera driver, but they will have limited capabilities only. Many of the manufacturers such as Logitech recommend that you install the camera drivers for their cameras to obtain the maximum out of their cameras.

Third party drivers  sites

There are third party sites that can be visited to obtain the camera drivers. Normally you can search with the make and the model number to get the specific camera driver. The camera driver is also available from the manufacturer such as Creative, Intel, Acer, Dell, Logitech etc.

Microsoft Up updates its list of camera driver along with other drivers every week. Check for the new updates to see whether the driver has been updated or not. If you still can’t find the camera driver that you have looking for, and then look at the CD or the floppy drive that arrived with the camera when you purchased the device. If all else fails, then install a generic for the device. At least the user would get the basic functions if not all the functions for the webcam.
