How to cut down fatal error on Windows
One of the most frustrating experiences is when you will see Windows fatal errors being displayed on your desktop. It is a situation that most people have not really learnt to deal with unless you are a techie. Most of the times, this will happen when you shut down and restart your computer and see a error message that says, “Fatal exception 0E at 0028:C433442B in VXD octk16.sys (01) + 0000342B. This was called from 0028:C003C47C in VXD NDIS (01) + 00000D7C. It may be possible to continue normally.” Most of the Windows fatal errors will display a similar message like “A fatal exception XY has occurred at xxxx:xxxxxxxx” Most of the people operating on Windows OS will probably panic and think that there has been a virus attack. These fatal errors are not caused by a virus attacks.
Understanding Fatal Errors in Windows
Windows fatal errors or fatal exception errors are basically codes, which have been returned by a specific program in particular case. The case can be any of the following:
- If an invalid code or data is accessed
- If an illegal instruction access is encountered
- If the privilege level of any operation is invalid
In any of the above cases, your computer processor will return an exception to your OS or the Windows OS, which is seen and treated as fatal errors. In some of the cases, this exception might be non-recoverable and you will have to restart your system. Of course sometimes the fatal errors may be severe and restarting the system might not solve the problem. In such a scenario, you will have to look for an alternative like using a registry mechanic like RegCure to handle the fatal errors.
In reality, these fatal errors are not entirely cause by Windows. Windows has an exception handling routine for a particular processor exception, and as a result displays such a message. Most of the fatal errors are caused in Windows 95/98/2000/Me although things are a little different with Windows XP. If you are using Windows XP then you will be able to control its response towards critical errors like the fatal exception errors. One of the infamous fatal errors is known as the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).
If you get the Blue Screen of Death then the first thing to do is restart your computer in the safe mode. You can then use a state-of-the-art registry mechanic like RegCure to take a back-up of the registry and clean it. RegCure has the ability to identify any or all invalid files or entries and can automatically take care of the files thus eliminating any scope for fatal errors.
