Driver Update Tools

What are drivers?

Drivers are small software that act as ago between the device and the operating system. They help the device and the operating system to talk and communicate with each other and pass the commands so that the user can access the system for their computing needs. Many of the drivers such as those for the keyboards come along with the operating system itself. While others such as cameras and printers might require their own drivers for installation. Driver update tools and resources are found on the websites of the manufacturers, within the operating systems and many of third party websites.

Automatic driver scan is one of the Driver update tools

Driver update tools such as automatic driver scan software will automatically detect the number of hardware devices that are installed on the system. They will automatically scan the drivers present for those devices. In case updated versions of those drivers are available for download, the Driver update tools will let the user know the websites from which they can download.

Is it necessary to update the drivers?

The questions are whether it’s really worth it to download the new drivers. The answer to that is a resounding yes. The Driver update tools such as new driver updates or new versions remove the bugs and non operational functions of the previous versions. This makes the device operate better. It helps the hardware and the software of the computer perform better.

Boot or not

Normally the older operating systems of the Windows needed the system to boot entirely after a new hardware or a device driver was updated by the Driver update tools. The new windows XP and Vista don’t require the system to boot after installation of the update versions has been completed.

Warning messages

Many a times while installing the new Driver update tools, a warning message is displayed that typically says that the update hasn’t passed the Windows Logo testing and isn’t compatible. This means that the drivers aren’t WHQL certified by Microsoft giving it its seal of approval. This only means that the drivers haven’t been tested by Microsoft as of now and doesn’t necessarily mean that the drivers are bad. The user may continue to install the driver.

There are many free and paid Driver update tools available on the internet. Do a Google search to find the one that suits your requirements.

Camera drivers

All webcams are different and require specific drivers. Manufacturers tend to bundle the drivers of the similar webcams as one when they sell the devices. Many a times the user can use an alternative camera driver for the webcam device that they are using. Windows in most cases has built in drivers for both webcams and the digital drivers. Even if you don’t find the camera driver for the specific digital camera for downloading the pictures, you can certainly use the camera wizard to install the device on your system.
